The classic Tower of Hanoi from MoYu in an eight-disc version, in white. You move the whole stack to another peg one disc at a time, never placing a larger disc on a smaller one. The shortest solution takes 255 moves, so you need to plan it out.
MoYu Hanoi Tower 8 Layers is an eight-disc logic puzzle based on the classic Tower of Hanoi. Unlike cubes, it has no turning, no magnets and no tension adjustment. What matters here is planning your moves and carrying them out consistently. We stock it in white (White).
At the start, all the discs sit on one peg, with the largest at the bottom and each one above it smaller than the last. Your goal is to move the whole stack to another peg, following these rules:
The rules are simple, but it's easy to lose track. With eight discs, the solution takes at least 255 moves, because the minimum number of moves is 2n - 1. This means every extra disc doubles the length of the solution. Solving the tower by feel is unlikely to work. You need to understand the pattern: to move the bottom disc, you first move the entire tower above it, then repeat the same process with the smaller stacks.
The Tower of Hanoi is a classic example of recursive thinking. That's why it often appears in maths and computer science lessons, as well as in first programming classes. Solving it trains you to plan several steps ahead, be patient and spot repeating patterns. These are largely the same skills that come in handy when learning cube algorithms.
The tower is a great fit for a child who enjoys logic puzzles but isn't ready to learn algorithms on a 3x3 cube yet. It also works well for a cuber looking for a break from speedcubing, or as a teaching aid for lessons. If you already know the method, you can try solving the tower in the minimum number of moves or work on your speed. Eight discs is the challenging version: a full solve takes quite a while, so for your first attempt it's a good idea to start with just a few of the smallest discs.
