MoYu Magnetic Redi Cube Ball Core

The Redi Cube is a puzzle designed by Oskar van Deventer in which you turn the corners instead of the faces. The MoYu Magnetic Redi Cube Ball Core is a version of this puzzle built like modern speed cubes. It has magnets in its pieces and a magnetic Ball-Core. In our shop it is available in the Stickerless Bright version, made of coloured plastic with no stickers.

What the magnets and Ball-Core do

Small magnets in the edges and corners make every move clearly "click" into place. In a puzzle that turns around its corners, this makes a big difference: the cube aligns more easily and is less likely to get stuck halfway through a move. The Ball-Core adds extra magnets between the corners and the centre of the cube. They help the layers align and keep the cube stable during faster turning. Users most often describe the turning as smooth and clicky. The magnets are not very strong, more on the medium side.

What to keep in mind

Opinions are not completely uniform. Some buyers reported popping right out of the box, while others mentioned catching. Usually, though, the cube performs well. If a piece pops out, you can put it back in. This version costs noticeably more than the basic MoYu Redi Cube without magnets. The mechanism and solving difficulty are similar in both, so the difference is mainly stability and a clear "click" with every move.

Who is it for?

You can solve the Redi Cube intuitively, without learning a long list of algorithms. That makes it a great first unusual puzzle after the 3x3 cube. It is not a WCA event, so this cube is more likely to end up in a collection or be solved for fun than used for competition training. The magnetic version with Ball-Core makes sense if you want stable, predictable turning. For a first introduction to the puzzle, the standard version is also enough.
