MoYu Meffert's Pyraminx Duomo Cube

It looks like a Pyraminx, but it works differently on the inside. Moyu Mefferts Pyraminx Duomo Cube is a tetrahedral puzzle from the Meffert's series, made by MoYu. It has no edges or layers like the classic Pyraminx. It consists of just four corners and four centers. The idea for this design came from Rob Stegmann, and the mechanism was developed by Oskar van Deventer. We stock the version with a black body, and each face has one of four colors.

How it differs from a regular Pyraminx

To solve a standard Pyraminx, you need to learn a few algorithms, because the edges require their own move sequences. Here there are no edges, so the number of possible positions is very small, and you can find the solution by trial and error, without learning any algorithms. A scrambled puzzle can usually be solved in just a few moves. If you already know the Pyraminx, this will be a quick brain teaser rather than a long challenge. For beginners, on the other hand, it shows how corner-turning puzzles work.

Build and adjustment

The body measures approx. 78 mm and weighs approx. 93 g. Tension is adjusted with screws, so you can set the turning looser or tighter. This is a collector's puzzle, not speedcubing equipment. It has no magnets, and you shouldn't expect the speed or stability of modern speedcubing Pyraminxes. The Pyraminx Duo is not a WCA event, so you can't use it at official competitions.

Who is it for?

It's a great choice for a child or for anyone just starting out with puzzles who wants to get used to the tetrahedron shape before taking on a real Pyraminx. It also makes a nice small gift. Collectors will appreciate it too, as it's a licensed Meffert's design – the company tied to the history of the Pyraminx. If you're looking for a Pyraminx for timed practice, choose a speedcubing model instead.
