MoYu MeiLong 11x11x11

This 11x11 is noticeably smaller than typical cubes of this size. The MoYu MeiLong 11x11x11 was released in 2019 as part of the budget MeiLong line (from the MoFang JiaoShi brand, also known as Cubing Classroom). Its edge length is about 89 mm, so you can solve it in your hands without having to keep putting it down on the table. This is the first version of the model, with no magnets and no UV coating, in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

Mechanism

The cube uses a three-layer mechanism similar to the one in the MF8 and MF9. The pieces in the two outer middle layers have extra anchoring features that hold them in the mechanism. As a result, the cube pops less often and these pieces are less likely to get stuck. The inside of the cube below the lowest layer of the mechanism is hollow. The pieces therefore have a smaller contact area, and turning meets less resistance. Tension is adjusted with screws.

How it turns

The cube comes factory-lubed, so it turns light and smooth straight out of the box. It is stable for such a big cube, but you should know its limits. Fast, aggressive turning causes lockups, and a piece may pop out now and then. There are no magnets, so you will need to align the layers yourself more often. The MeiLong works best with calm, precise turning rather than when you try to push for high TPS.

First version or V2?

MoYu later released the MeiLong 11x11 V2. It is even smaller (about 69.5 mm), much lighter and also comes in a magnetic version with Ball-Core. This product is the first version: bigger, heavier and without magnets. If you are looking for the smallest possible 11x11 or want magnets, compare it with the V2.

Who is it for?

For people who already solve the 7x7 or 9x9 and want to try a bigger cube without spending a lot. It is also a good choice for collectors and fans of long, relaxed solves. It is not suitable as a first cube: you should first master the 3x3 and the reduction method on smaller big cubes. 11x11 cubes are not an event at official WCA competitions.
