MoYu MeiLong 6x6x6

The MoYu MeiLong 6x6x6 is the first 6x6 in the budget MeiLong series.
It was released in 2019. It's a simple non-magnetic 6x6 cube for anyone who wants to start solving big cubes without spending a lot of money right away. It measures 65 mm and weighs 171 g. At the time of its release, it was the smallest and lightest 6x6 on the speedcubing market. Smaller designs exist today, including within the MeiLong series itself.

Design

The mechanism is simple. The pieces are hollowed out to reduce weight, and there are no extra stabilizing parts inside. The cutouts that improve corner cutting are fairly small, so the cube doesn't forgive big inaccuracies. If a layer is misaligned, it's better to straighten it first than to force the move through. Tension is set with adjustment screws. If the cube feels tight out of the box, loosening it slightly and adding lube usually helps. Loosening it too much, however, increases the risk of popping.

How it turns

Turning is light, and corner cutting is average. Catches don't get in the way of relaxed solving or learning the method. Thanks to its low weight and 65 mm size, it's less tiring in your hands than a heavier, larger 6x6, which matters during long solves. Without magnets, the layers don't snap into place on their own, so your speed depends on how precise your moves are.

Who is it for?

For beginners who want to get to know the 6x6 and learn center and edge reduction, as well as for casual solvers. It's also a sensible cube for a collection or for a child who has already mastered the 4x4 and 5x5. A speedcuber aiming for good 6x6 times will most likely need a magnetic model with a more advanced mechanism. The cube is approved for official competitions.
