The third generation of MoYu's budget 9x9, noticeably smaller and lighter than its predecessor: approx. 65.5 mm and approx. 176 g. Standard, non-magnetic version with smooth single-screw tension adjustment and a reinforced construction that limits layer shifting. A good choice for your first 9x9.
MoYu Meilong 9x9 V3 is the third generation of the budget 9x9 cube from the Meilong (MFJS) series. The biggest change is the size. The previous Meilong 9x9 measured approx. 75 mm and weighed approx. 284 g. The V3 is 65.5 mm and weighs approx. 176 g, roughly the same as a typical 7x7. Our variant is the standard, non-magnetic version in stickerless bright colours.
This small 9x9 fits comfortably in your hands. During long solves your hands get noticeably less tired than with older big cubes. According to user reviews, the layers turn light and smooth right out of the box, and the cube handles popping well. Inside there is a central column with a locking system and interlocking layers. They limit center wobble and layer shifting, which is a common problem in cubes of this size.
Corner cutting is very limited, so you need to align the layers carefully before the next move. The lack of magnets also means that the cube doesn't settle the layers into place by itself and is less precise during faster turning. For relaxed solves and learning this is not a problem, but you will notice it when chasing times.
Tension is adjusted with a single screw in the core, smoothly, without fixed steps. The outer layers are widened, which makes the cube easier to grip and the turns easier to control. The plastic is semi-glossy, with a subtle matte texture and medium grip.
The Meilong 9x9 V3 is also available in a magnetic version with Ball-Core. It has 208 magnets in the pieces and 8 magnets in the core, weighs approx. 191 g and is noticeably more expensive. The magnets help align the layers, making turning more accurate and more controllable. The non-magnetic version is lighter and cheaper, but requires more attention when aligning the layers.
A good choice for your first 9x9, for someone who already knows the 6x6 or 7x7 and wants to try a bigger cube without spending a lot. It also works well as a cube for casual solving and for your collection. Speedcubers who want to practise 9x9 regularly for time will get more out of the magnetic version.
