MoYu Meilong Fisher Cube

MoYu MeiLong Fisher Cube is a shape mod of the classic 3x3 cube from the MeiLong series, MoYu's budget line. The idea comes from Tony Fisher: the layer cuts are rotated by 45° around one axis. As a result, the pieces that look like edges are actually corners, and the corners work as edges. When solved, the Fisher looks like an ordinary cube, but after a few moves it loses its regular shape.

The Fisher Cube is often the first mod people try after mastering the 3x3. The mechanism is the same as in a 3x3, so the method you already know is all you need, and you don't have to learn a new solving system. You do, however, have to get used to the new shape. Center orientation causes the most trouble. On the four side faces, the centers sit where the edges would be, so you can see whether they are turned correctly. Sometimes, after you solve the cube, one of the centers turns out to be rotated and you need to fix it with a short sequence of moves. For someone who has only solved the 3x3 before, this is usually the most interesting part of this puzzle.

The mechanism is based on MoYu's MF3. The pieces hold together well, and the rounded internal parts give decent corner cutting. Turning is smooth, and lockups are rare. For a shape mod, the cube turns surprisingly well. Keep in mind, though, that it's still a casual cube, not gear for breaking records. Tension can be adjusted with the screws, so you can set it looser or tighter depending on how you like to solve.

This version is stickerless bright, made of colored plastic without stickers, so nothing will wear off or peel. The Fisher Cube is not a WCA event, so it can't be used at official competitions.

This cube is a great choice for collectors and for anyone who can solve the 3x3 and wants to try their first mod. It's also a good gift for a child who already solves the 3x3 and is looking for something new.
