MoYu MeiLong Kilominx

MoYu MeiLong Kilominx is a kilominx, which is a 2x2 version of the megaminx. It is sometimes also called a kibiminx. It has the shape of a dodecahedron but consists only of corners, with no edges and no visible centers. The puzzle belongs to the MeiLong series, run by MoFangJiaoShi (Cubing Classroom), MoYu's budget brand. It was released in 2019. This version is stickerless, in the bright color scheme.

Design

Inside, the MeiLong Kilominx is not very different from other kilominxes. The most important change is the geometry: the centers are strongly flattened, so the edges of the pieces also run at a different angle. As a result, the corner bases are larger, which improves stability. The outer edges have ridges that give you a better grip. On a dodecahedron this matters, because the faces are small and your fingers can easily slip off them.

How it turns

Turning is light and corner cutting is decent. For casual solving and learning, that is more than enough. The puzzle has no magnets, so the layers do not settle into place on their own and you need to finish your turns a little more precisely than on magnetic puzzles. Tension is adjusted with screws, so you can set the puzzle looser or tighter.

Who is this kilominx for?

A kilominx is a good first step towards the megaminx. If you solve the 2x2 cube and know the basics of the megaminx, you will quickly find your way around it, because knowledge from both puzzles comes in handy. The MeiLong is an inexpensive model, so it works well as a first kilominx, a puzzle for your collection or a gift for a child who has already mastered the 3x3. The kilominx is not a WCA event, so you cannot solve it at official competitions.
