MoYu Meilong 9CM Maple Cube is a Maple Cube, also known as the Ivy Cube, in a large size. Each side measures 90 mm, while a standard Maple Cube is about 56 mm. The puzzle comes from the Meilong series, which MoYu sells under the MFJS (MoFang JiaoShi) brand. The same 9 cm series also includes large versions of the 2x2 and 3x3. The cube is stickerless in a bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel.

How the Maple Cube works

The Maple Cube is a corner-turning puzzle, similar to the Skewb. The layers turn around the corners rather than around the face centers. The mechanism is based on four rotating corners, so there are only a few algorithms and you can learn to solve it quickly. It works well as your first puzzle after the 3x3 or as an introduction before the Skewb. The centers are shaped like maple leaves, hence the name Maple Leaf. The Ivy Cube is not a WCA event, but it has plenty of fans among cubers who enjoy shape mods.

Large size, no magnets

This version has no magnets, so the layers don't "click" into place or align by themselves. At 9 cm, every move is longer than on a regular Maple Cube, so the 56 mm version is better suited for setting records. The large cube sits comfortably in bigger hands, makes it easier to follow the moves while learning, and looks great on a shelf.

How it differs from the regular MoYu Maple Cube

The standard MoYu Maple Cube is 56 mm and comes in several versions: non-magnetic, magnetic, magnetic Ball-Core, and Ball-Core with UV coating. The magnetic versions feature a dual-adjustment system, i.e. separate compression and tension adjustment. For fast Ivy Cube solving, they are the right choice. The 9 cm version is for collectors, for anyone who wants something unusual, and for kids who are just starting their adventure with puzzles.
