MoYu Meilong Mirror 3x3 V2

MoYu Meilong Mirror 3x3 V2 is the second version of MoYu's popular Mirror Cube. This shape mod has a regular 3x3 mechanism inside, but all sides are the same colour. The pieces differ only in thickness, so once you scramble it, the cube loses its cubic shape and turns into an irregular block. Instead of matching colours, you match the shapes and heights of the pieces until you get a smooth cube again. The model is available in Blue and Green.

What solving a Mirror Cube is like

The moves are the same as on a classic 3x3 cube, so the algorithms you already know are all you need. The challenge is recognising the pieces. Without colours, you have to look at which piece is thicker, which is thinner and how it sits relative to its neighbours. On the last layer in particular, it's easy to mix up similar pieces. If you solve the 3x3 with the layer-by-layer method or CFOP, you'll grasp the idea quickly, but your first solves will usually take longer than you expect.

Because of the uneven pieces, the cube behaves differently when turning than a typical speed cube. The Mirror is more of a puzzle for fun and collecting than gear for setting times, so it's not worth judging it as a speedcubing cube.

Non-magnetic version

MoYu also sells the Mirror V2 as a magnetic version and as a magnetic version with Ball-Core. This product is the basic non-magnetic variant, weighing approx. 69 g. If you want the layers to snap into place more noticeably on their own, choose the magnetic version. For learning to solve by shape and as an interesting change from a regular 3x3, the basic version is all you need.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can already solve a 3x3 cube and wants to try something new without learning algorithms from scratch. It's also a great gift for a child who already solves a regular cube. For a very first cube, a classic coloured 3x3 is a better choice, as it makes it easier to understand how solving works.
