MoYu Pandora Cube is a 3x3 cube with modified piece shapes: protruding corners, sunken edges and enlarged centers. You solve it with the same method as a classic 3x3, but once scrambled it looks completely different, which makes recognizing the cube's state harder. The cube has no magnets, measures 56 mm and features tension adjustment with screws.
MoYu Pandora Cube is a 3x3 shape mod. The mechanism is a standard three-layer one, but the pieces have a modified shape: the corners stick out beyond the body, the edges are "sunken" and the centers are noticeably enlarged. Once scrambled, the cube looks like a mosaic, and it's hard to believe it's still a 3x3. Even so, you solve it with the same method as a classic 3x3 cube. The model comes from the MoYu Cubing Classroom (MFJS) line, so some sources also list it as MFJS Pandora or Meilong Pandora. It was released in 2018.
The algorithms are the same as on a regular 3x3. The challenge lies elsewhere: the unusual piece shapes make it harder to recognize the cube's state, and the puzzle changes its appearance when scrambled. For the first few solves, even someone who knows the 3x3 well will be slower than usual.
Turning is smooth and the cube doesn't offer much resistance. You just need to get used to the shape of the pieces, as the protruding parts can catch on your fingers during faster turning. This is a puzzle for relaxed solving, not for setting times. The cube has no magnets and is not legal for official WCA competitions.
Tension is set with adjustment screws. You can loosen the cube slightly if it turns too stiffly, or tighten it if it feels too loose and unstable.
For anyone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to try something new without learning a different method. The Pandora Cube also works well as a first shape mod for your collection or as a gift for a child who already knows the classic 3x3 cube. If you're learning from scratch, it's better to start with a regular 3x3, because the unusual shape makes it harder to understand the basics.
