MoYu Weilong GTS3 3x3x3

The third generation of the WeiLong GTS series. MoYu released it in 2018 as its flagship 3x3 at the time. This version of the MoYu WeiLong GTS3 3x3x3 has no magnets. However, the pieces have magnet slots, so you can magnetize the cube yourself later. The model comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme and is delivered in an elegant, rigid white-and-silver box that can be folded into a cube stand.

How it turns

The GTS3 is very fast. Turning is light, and the feel is crunchy with a clear "clicky" character. The cube is fairly loud. Corner cutting is very good. The inner surface of the pieces has many grooves that reduce the contact area and turning resistance. This speed comes at a price, though. Without magnets and with the factory lube, some users report overshooting and lockups. A thicker lube on the core and adjusted settings usually help. If you prefer a more controllable feel straight out of the box, keep this in mind.

Design and adjustment

The centres have the "coat" typical of the GTS series. This solution was borrowed from the FangShi ShuangRen and improves the cube's stability. The piece design is very similar to the WeiLong GTS2, with a few improvements. New in the GTS3 are raised ridges on the outer edges, which improve grip, and a dual adjustment system. Besides classic tension adjustment with screws, you can change spring compression with a special key. This makes it easier to set up the cube repeatably for speed or for control.

GTS3, GTS3 M or GTS3 LM?

The mechanism is the same; the difference is the magnets. The GTS3 M has strong magnets, the GTS3 LM weaker ones, and this version has none at all. That is also why it is lighter: approx. 84 g, while the magnetic versions weigh approx. 90-91 g.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like a fast, non-magnetic feel or want to magnetize the cube themselves and fine-tune their own setup. Most people who practise for time use magnetic cubes today. Beginners will usually find a magnetic model easier. The cube is legal for official competitions.
