MoYu WeiPo V5 20-M Ball Core UV 2x2

The fifth generation of WeiPo, MoYu's flagship 2x2 series, released in 2024. MoYu WeiPo V5 20-M Ball Core UV 2x2 is a 50 mm cube with a 20-magnet Ball-Core and a glossy UV coating. Distributors present it as the first 2x2 cube with a Ball-Core built from 20 magnets. It is available in the stickerless bright version.

How it turns

The biggest change is the magnets acting between the corners and the core. A 2x2 cube has eight corners, and each of them has a magnet attracted to the ball in the core. As a result, the layers snap clearly into place and the cube holds its alignment even during fast turning. The rounded corners are designed to make corner cutting easier, and the pieces with a scale-shaped texture ("dragon scale") are meant to reduce friction while turning.

User opinions on the feel are mixed. The magnets are clearly noticeable, and some people find the cube stiff out of the box, even at the loosest setting. Others say that after loosening it, lubing it and doing a few dozen solves, the cube turns much better. If you like light 2x2 cubes with weak magnets and an airy feel, the WeiPo V5 may feel too heavy to turn for you.

Magnets and adjustment

• 76 factory-installed magnets: 48 in the pieces, 8 in the corners (attracted to the core) and 20 in the Ball-Core.
• 8 compression levels, i.e. settings for how tightly the pieces are pressed together. An adjustment tool and a screwdriver are included.
• UV coating: a glossy surface with strong grip, more scratch-resistant than regular plastic.

WeiPo V5 or WeiPo V5 AI?

In the same generation, MoYu also released the WeiPo V5 AI smart cube. It has Bluetooth and a gyroscope and works with an app, but it has a different magnet layout and is noticeably more expensive. The version described here has no electronics. What matters most in it is the full 20-magnet Ball-Core.

Who is it for?

For a cuber who solves 2x2 for time and likes a stable cube with strong magnets, and who also wants to fine-tune the compression and lubrication themselves. For a child's first 2x2 cube or for occasional solving, a cheaper magnetic model will be enough.
