Pocket Kururin, a wooden rolling stick

Not everything we sell has layers to turn. Pocket Kururin is a small wooden cylinder for tabletop skill tricks. This type of toy comes from Japan and is also called a fidget stick or a rolling stick. You place it on a flat surface and push it with your finger, and it flips end over end. The fun is in learning to control that motion.

How it works

The basic trick is a flip that ends with the stick stopping upright, at the highest point of its rotation. Your first attempts will usually end with the Kururin falling over or rolling too far. After a few minutes, though, you start to feel how hard and at what angle you need to push it. Then you can move on to several flips in a row, stopping it with one or two hands, changing direction and creating your own combinations.

Unlike a classic logic puzzle, the Kururin has no single solution. It trains motion control and timing, a bit like your first fingertricks on a cube. All you need is a smooth surface, such as a desk or a table.

Pocket size

The Pocket version is about 9.3 cm long and 2.5 cm in diameter, and it weighs about 25 g. It easily fits in your pocket, pencil case or backpack along with your cube. It is made of wood in a natural colour.

Who is it for?

For anyone who likes having something in their hands at the desk, while studying or between solves. It also makes a nice small gift: it needs no batteries or complicated instructions, and the first successes come quickly. If you are looking for a puzzle to solve, keep in mind that this is a skill toy, not a logic puzzle.
