QiYi 1x3x3 Fidget Cube: a cuboid and a fidget spinner in one

This flat 1x3x3 puzzle from QiYi is two things at once. You can solve it like a cuboid or simply spin it in your fingers, because its center works like a fidget spinner. The idea is simple: combine speedcubing with a fidget toy and give you something you reach for without thinking, e.g. at your desk or while traveling.

Super floppy: a cube that changes shape

The mechanism is a 3x3x1 super floppy. On a classic floppy cube, the layers only turn 180 degrees. Here you can also turn them 90 degrees. The cube then changes shape, and solving it back is a bit harder than with the regular version. It is still an easy puzzle, though. You don't need to know any 3x3 algorithms, and a solution guide is included in the set, so even a complete beginner can handle it.

Turning is smooth, the cube doesn't catch, and you don't have to fight with it. Compared with other toys of this kind, the spinner function performs well. Keep in mind, however, that this is still a cube with a built-in spinner, not a high-performance spinner, so don't expect record-breaking spin times.

Tiles instead of stickers

The colors aren't stickers; they are made of matte plastic tiles. This surface doesn't peel or wear off like stickers, which really matters for a toy that spends a lot of time in your hand. The longer sides of the puzzle have a concave profile. The body is black.

Who is it for?

For anyone who likes to fiddle with something in their fingers, for collectors of cuboids and unusual puzzles, and as a small gift for a child interested in cubes. A speedcuber will treat it more as a break from training than as a puzzle for timed solving. The 1x3x3 puzzle is not an official competition event.
