QiYi 2x2 Pyramorphix

QiYi 2x2 Pyramorphix

QiYi 2x2 Pyramorphix is shaped like a tetrahedron, but inside it works on a regular 2x2 cube mechanism. It looks a bit like a two-layer Pyraminx. The difference is that the layers don't turn around the tips. The cuts go through the middle of the puzzle, just like on a 2x2 cube. After a few moves the pyramid loses its regular shape and turns into an irregular form. That's where all the fun lies.

How to solve it

The Pyramorphix is a shape mod: a puzzle that uses the mechanism of a well-known cube with a different outer shape. If you can solve a 2x2, you already have a solid starting point. You will still need to learn to recognise the pieces by their shape, because you have to look at the puzzle differently. The pyramid's tips and face centres look completely different from the corners of a regular cube.

Turning is smooth and the puzzle is pleasant to solve. Corner cutting doesn't matter here as much as on speedcubes, but the mechanism works well and doesn't need a long break-in. You can adjust the tension with the adjustment screws.

Colour versions

• Stickerless Bright is coloured plastic without stickers in a bright colour scheme. Nothing can peel off or wear away.
• Jelly color is translucent plastic that lets you partly see the mechanism. This version is mainly for those who like puzzles with an unusual look.

Who is it for?

The Pyramorphix is a good choice if you already solve the 2x2 or 3x3 and want to try something different without starting from scratch. It also makes a great gift for a child who has mastered the basic cube. The Pyramorphix is not a WCA event, so you buy it for fun and for your collection, not for competition training.
