A classic 3x3 cube, just noticeably bigger. The QiYi QiMeng Plus has an edge length of 90 mm, while a typical 3x3 speed cube measures about 56 mm. It is one of the few mass-produced big 3x3 cubes that turns well and lets you solve normally against the clock. It is not just a shelf gadget. The model was released in 2020, and we offer it in the stickerless bright colour scheme, which means coloured plastic instead of stickers.

How does a big 3x3 cube solve?

Despite its size, the QiMeng Plus turns lightly, and reviewers point out its good corner cutting, which is surprising with such large pieces. Still, every move means a longer path for your fingers, and the whole cube weighs about 246 g, several times more than a regular 3x3. Because of this, your TPS will be clearly lower than on a 56 mm cube, and you will need to adapt your fingertricks to the size of the cube a little. In practice, you solve it at a calmer pace, using movements of your whole hand rather than quick flicks.

The version described here has no magnets. The layers do not snap into place on their own, so turning is less precise than in magnetic versions, and lockups are more likely when you solve faster. Tension is set with adjustment screws under the centres, so you can make the cube looser or tighter.

Who is it for?

• For people with large hands who find a standard 3x3 cube too small.
• For learning and demonstrating algorithms. The large faces are easy to see from several metres away, so the cube comes in handy in school lessons or at a hobby club.
• For cubers who already have a fast 3x3 and want something different for their collection or for solving just for fun.

For training towards your best times, a standard-size cube is the better choice. The QiMeng Plus makes sense as a second 3x3 cube and as a teaching aid.
