QiYi 9x9 Cube

QiYi 9x9 Cube is a budget non-magnetic 9x9 cube released by QiYi in 2021. At just 75 mm, it is one of the smaller 9x9 cubes and much easier to hold than large big cubes. We offer the stickerless bright version: the colors are in the plastic, with no stickers that could wear off.

How it turns

The cube turns smoothly right out of the box, so you don't need a long break-in period. For a 9x9, the turning is very good. Its design and feel are similar to other QiYi puzzles from the S/S2 series, so if you've had one of those, you'll feel at home quickly. Don't expect the speed of a magnetic flagship cube, though. This is a calm, predictable 9x9 rather than a cube built for high TPS. According to user reviews, it turns noticeably lighter after lubing.

The finish is matte, and the low weight of about 262 g makes long solving sessions easier. On a 9x9 you make a lot of inner-layer moves, so this makes a real difference to comfort.

Tension adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. You can tighten the cube to make it more stable or loosen it for lighter turning and better corner cutting.

Standard or magnetic version?

QiYi also makes a version of this 9x9 cube with magnets and Ball-Core. Magnets help align the layers and give a clearer "click" with every move. This model has no magnets, so it relies more on the precision of your hands, but it is cheaper. It's more than enough for learning to solve a 9x9 or for your collection. If you want to train regularly for time, consider the magnetic version.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants to start with big cubes without spending a lot of money, and for collectors of NxN cubes. It also makes a great gift for someone who can already solve a 4x4 or 5x5 and is looking for a bigger challenge. The 9x9 is not a WCA event, so this model cannot be used in official competitions.
