QiYi Bubble 3x3

QiYi Bubble 3x3

At first glance, it's hard to tell it's a classic cube. Every piece of the QiYi Bubble 3x3 is shaped like a rounded ball, so the whole puzzle looks as if it were built from bubbles. Underneath, though, there's a regular 3x3 mechanism. You solve it exactly like a standard cube, so all the algorithms and methods you know, including the beginner's layer-by-layer method, work just the same.

A 3x3 cube as a shape mod

The Bubble is a shape mod, which means a cube with an unusual shape. It doesn't change how you solve it. It only changes the look and how it sits in your hand. The rounded, fairly large pieces are easy to grip, even for smaller hands. The cube is stickerless, so the colours are in the plastic itself and there are no stickers to peel or wear off.

There isn't much information yet on how it feels in the hand. Early user reviews say the cube comes factory-lubed and that corner cutting works when a layer is offset by about 45 degrees. Reverse corner cutting is noticeably weaker.

Colour versions

• Stickerless Bright: classic, vivid colours.
• Macaron: lighter, pastel shades.
• Transparent: coloured, see-through plastic.

The mechanism is the same in every version. You only choose the look.

Who is it for?

For a child who is just starting to solve and prefers a colourful, unusual cube to a plain cube shape. It's also a great fit for cubers who collect shape mods or want something on their desk that catches the eye right away. This isn't a cube for breaking records. If you want to train for time, choose a classic magnetic speedcube and treat the Bubble as a fun change of pace.
