QiYi Clover Pyraminx

QiYi Clover Pyraminx is a shape mod puzzle in which QiYi combined the idea behind its Clover Cube with the shape of a Pyraminx. From the outside it looks like a tetrahedron, but it doesn't solve like a classic Pyraminx. It only resembles one in form; the mechanism and the solving method are completely different.

The key feature of this puzzle is jumbling. You can turn a face by 45 degrees instead of a full move. The puzzle then changes shape, and pieces start travelling to places they would never reach with regular turns. This significantly raises the difficulty. After a few such moves, the patterns you know from the Pyraminx and the 3x3 stop working, and restoring the tetrahedron shape becomes a challenge of its own.

How does the Clover Pyraminx turn?

The QiYi mechanism turns smoothly right out of the box, so you don't need to take it apart or lube it to get started. Under the pieces that form the edges of the tetrahedron, there are adjustment screws. You can use them to tighten or loosen the puzzle, but the factory setup is good enough in most cases. The Clover Pyraminx isn't a puzzle for setting fast times. It's more about calm solving and keeping track of what happens to the pieces once it's jumbled.

Who is it for?

For those who already know the Pyraminx and the 3x3 cube and are looking for something that will make them think again. It's also a great pick for collectors of unusual puzzles. For a child's first puzzle, a regular Pyraminx is a better choice. The Clover Pyraminx is not approved for official WCA competitions.

Colour versions

Two versions are available: Black (black body with stickers) and Stickerless Bright (coloured plastic, stickerless).
