QiYi Galaxy Megaminx V2 L

QiYi Galaxy Megaminx V2 L (X-Man Design) is an enlarged version of the Galaxy V2, a megaminx from the series that was the go-to choice for many competitors for several years. X-Man Design is a sub-brand of QiYi. The mechanism stays the same; only the size has changed: the edge is 1.2 mm longer than on the regular V2. This item is the Sculpture version in stickerless bright, without magnets.

Size and grip. The standard Galaxy V2 is quite small, especially compared with the first generation. The L version sits between the V1 and the V2, so it suits people with larger hands who feel the V2 gets "lost" in their hands. Sculpture means raised ribbing on the faces, which gives you a more secure grip when turning faces with your fingers.

Mechanism. The entire inside of the puzzle, meaning the inner parts of the centers, the edge torpedoes and the corner feet, is made of undyed plastic, which helps the turning feel smoother. The design is simple, and the pieces have deep grooves that improve corner cutting. The corner and edge bases are double-layered, so the puzzle holds together well and is more stable during fast turning. Tension is set with adjustment screws.

How it turns. Turning is smooth, and you can tell XMD fixed what didn't work in the previous generation of megaminxes. Corner cutting is very good, and users also praise the reverse corner cutting inherited from the V2. The larger size makes the V2 L slightly less "snappy" than the smaller V2. With no magnets, you have to align the faces yourself. If you're used to magnetic megaminxes, it may take a little while to get used to this. If you want magnets in the same size, choose the LM version.

Who is it for? For cubers who want a good non-magnetic megaminx for practice and competitions (the model is legal for official WCA competitions) and find the standard Galaxy V2 too small. It works well both for those just starting out with the megaminx and for more experienced competitors.
