QiYi Galaxy Megaminx V2 L M

QiYi Galaxy Megaminx V2 L M is a magnetic megaminx from the Galaxy line by X-Man Design, a brand owned by QiYi. It is an enlarged version of the Galaxy V2 M. The mechanism is the same; only the size has changed: the edge is 31.7 mm instead of 30.5 mm, which makes it 1.2 mm longer. We stock the Sculpture (sculpted) version in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

Size is the main difference here. The standard Galaxy V2 M is fairly compact, so people with larger hands can find it cramped. The L M sits more comfortably in your hands, yet it is still smaller than the first-generation Galaxy. If you have smaller hands or prefer compact megaminxes, consider the regular M version. Sculpted means the pieces have a surface with subtle indentations that improve grip while solving.

The inside of the puzzle, meaning the inner parts of the centers, the edge torpedoes and the corner feet, is made of uncoloured plastic, which benefits the way the mechanism works. The mechanism is simple, and deep grooves in the pieces improve corner cutting. The corner and edge bases have two layers for greater stability.

Turning is very smooth. The springs are the same as in the smaller V2 M, so on the bigger puzzle the turns feel slightly lighter. Users describe it as fast, but not overly so, with good control. The magnets are of medium strength, yet the click is clearly noticeable because the plastic is thin. They help align the faces, so you need to correct layers less often between moves. Tension is adjusted with adjustment screws.

The Galaxy V2 L M is a sensible choice if you solve megaminx casually and want to switch to a magnetic model. It will also suit speedcubers who train this event and want a larger megaminx than the V2 M. The puzzle is legal for official competitions. Black plates are included, so you can change the base colour from grey to black.
