QiYi X-Man Galaxy Megaminx V2 Magnetic (V2 M)

Galaxy Megaminx V2 M is the magnetic version of the second-generation Galaxy. It is made by X-Man Design, a sub-brand of QiYi. This megaminx is smaller than most models on the market: its edge is 1.2 mm shorter than on the V2 LM. In 2019, Juan Pablo Huanqui set megaminx world records on the Galaxy V2 M, for both average and single.

Construction and magnets

The inside of the puzzle is made of undyed plastic: the inner parts of the centers, the edge torpedoes and the corner feet. The mechanism is simple, and the pieces have deep grooves that improve corner cutting. The corner and edge bases are double-layered, which stabilizes the layers. The magnets are medium strength, but because the plastic is thin, the "click" when a layer lines up feels more pronounced than their strength alone would suggest. Tension is adjusted with screws.

How it turns

Turning is very smooth and slightly heavier than on the V2 LM. Users praise its corner cutting, control and resistance to popping. Thanks to its smaller size, the V2 M feels more compact and snappy than the LM, even though on paper both models have the same magnets and piece design. Some people report that the puzzle can be tight and dry out of the box, so it is worth loosening it and lubing it to your liking.

Concave or Sculpture?

Both versions have the same mechanism; only the face surface is different. Sculpture has raised ridges on every piece that help with grip. Concave has slightly concave faces. Color options: Black or Stickerless Bright.

Who is it for?

For anyone who solves megaminx regularly and wants a proven magnetic model, as well as for cubers with smaller hands. If you have large hands or prefer bigger megaminxes, you may feel more comfortable with the LM version. Megaminx is a WCA event, so you can use this puzzle at official competitions.
