QiYi HeiManBa V3 3x3x3

HeiManBa is the Chinese name of the Black Mamba series. It is one of QiYi's oldest lines, dating back to before the company started making flagship speedcubes. The QiYi HeiManBa V3 3x3x3 is the 2022 version of this Mamba. Its mechanism was redesigned from scratch, modelled on the popular X-Man Tornado V2. The result is a budget 3x3 cube without magnets, but with adjustment options you don't usually find in this price range.

How it turns

The cube turns light and smooth, and the mechanism feels solid. Out of the box it can be fairly loose, so many people tighten it to their liking straight away. Since it has no magnets, the layers don't snap into place on their own. It forgives imprecise moves less than a magnetic model, but in return it's great for learning precise turning. Don't compare it with magnetic speedcubes. Think of it as a decent practice cube, for beginners or to carry around with you.

Adjustment and magnets

• Dual adjustment. Tension is set with the screws, and spring compression with the included key. You can change each one independently.
• 5 spring compression levels. At the same tension, you can make the cube feel bouncier or softer.
• Easy to magnetize. It comes without magnets, but you can easily add them yourself.

From user reviews: the screws are short. With a very loose setup, a screw can come out during a solve and the layer falls apart. It's better not to loosen the cube all the way.

Who is it for?

A great first "real" cube for a child or an adult who is just learning to solve. Also for anyone who wants an affordable backup cube or a base for magnetizing it themselves. For regular timed solving, a magnetic model is a better choice. That said, the HeiManBa V3 is legal for official competitions.
