QiYi IVY Cube M

QiYi IVY Cube M is the magnetic version of the Ivy Cube, one of the simplest unofficial (non-WCA) puzzles. QiYi made it together with Eitan. The mechanism is based on the Skewb: the layers turn around the corners, and the faces have distinctive leaf-shaped pieces. That is where the name "ivy" comes from. The letter M in the name stands for the magnets factory-installed in the pieces. The cube comes in the stickerless bright version, which means it is made of coloured plastic, with no stickers.

How it turns

The magnets are on the light to medium side. They don't slow down your moves, and every turn clearly "clicks" into place. This makes turning more precise and consistent than in the non-magnetic version. Corner cutting is decent, but the cube can catch if your turns are misaligned. Some users say the cube can feel a bit slow straight out of the box. A drop of light lube helps with that. The smooth stickerless plastic is quite slippery, which can make a secure grip harder for some people at first.

Who is it for?

The Ivy Cube is easy to understand and solve. It is often recommended as a first puzzle other than the 3x3 cube, including for kids. It's a great choice if you want to start collecting unusual puzzles, and it makes an affordable addition to any collection. Advanced cubers can use it for quick, casual solving between longer sessions.

The M version vs other Ivy Cubes

The QiYi Ivy Cube comes in several versions. The standard one has no magnets and turns slower, with less precision. The M version has magnets in the pieces. There is also an M version with a UV coating, which gives a glossy surface and better grip. That difference matters if slippery plastic bothers you. The M and M UV versions share the same mechanism.
