QiYi Kilominx

QiYi Kilominx is the 2x2 version of the megaminx. It has the shape of a dodecahedron, but it is made up of corners only, with no edges and no moving centers. It looks simpler than a classic megaminx, and that can be misleading: without centers, it is harder to tell where each piece should go. The model was released in 2020 and is one of the more affordable ways to get to know puzzles from the minx family.

How it turns

The puzzle turns smoothly and stably, without catching. QiYi made a solid mechanism for casual solving here rather than a speedcubing design, so don't expect it to perform like flagship models. Under the screws there are adjustment elements that let you tighten or loosen the puzzle and set it up more for speed or more for stability.

If you can solve a megaminx, you will use the same knowledge on the Kilominx, just limited to the corners. If you only know the 2x2 or 3x3, you will need to get used to twelve faces. Solving instructions are included and help with your first attempts.

Color versions

• Stickerless Bright: colored plastic, no stickers. The decorative caps on the face centers are distinct from one another and can be easily removed.
• Black: version with a black body.

Who is it for?

The Kilominx is a great choice if you have mastered the 2x2 and 3x3 and want to try something different, but aren't ready to buy a full megaminx yet. It also fits nicely into a puzzle collection. It makes a good gift for a child who can already handle a classic cube. Keep in mind, however, that the Kilominx is not a WCA event. To train megaminx for competitions, you will need a regular megaminx.
