QiYi M Pro 5x5 Ball Core UV

With the M Pro series, QiYi brings features known from more expensive models to mid-range cubes. The QiYi M Pro 5x5 Ball Core UV is a magnetic 5x5 cube with magnets in the core (Ball-Core), magnets between the pieces and a glossy UV coating. It measures 61 mm and weighs about 131 g, so it is light for a magnetic 5x5. In our shop it is available in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

Two magnet systems

The manufacturer calls this dual magnetic positioning. The first system is the classic set of magnets between the edges and the corners. They help the layers snap into place and line up. The second is Ball-Core, with magnets connecting the corners to the core. On a 5x5 this matters a lot: during fast turning it is easy to slightly misalign the layers, which then causes lockups during the 3x3 stage. The core magnets keep the layers on their axes, so the cube more often "pulls" them back into place by itself.

Design tailored to a bigger cube

• Widened outer layers give your fingers more room for outer layer moves.
• Redesigned middle layer pieces distribute pressure better. According to the manufacturer, this reduces misalignments and lockups.
• Anti-stick grooves on the edges and large, rounded corners are designed to make corner cutting easier.
• Hollow centers reduce weight, so your hands get less tired during long sessions.

Tension is adjusted the classic way, separately on each face. On a 5x5 even a small change in tension clearly affects the feel, so it is best to start with the factory settings and adjust gradually. The cube comes pre-lubed from the factory.

How it turns

Distributors describe the M Pro 5x5 as a fast and stable cube with smooth corner cutting. However, there are few independent reviews so far, so we treat this as a preliminary assessment. Thanks to Ball-Core, the cube usually feels more "together" and controllable. If you like very loose, flexible 5x5s, you may feel it gives you less freedom. The UV coating has a glossy surface and offers more grip than matte plastic.

Who is it for?

It is a good choice if you want to upgrade from a budget 5x5 to a cube with core magnets and a UV coating, but don't need a flagship model. The low weight will also help those who are just learning 5x5 and doing longer sessions. If you are only checking whether bigger cubes are for you, a cheaper magnetic 5x5 will be enough to start with.
