QiYi Magnetic 9x9x9 Ball-Core

QiYi Magnetic 9x9x9 Ball-Core

This is the magnetic version of the QiYi 9x9 cube. The main difference from the regular QiYi 9x9 is the magnetic Ball-Core. On big cubes this matters a lot: with dozens of layers and hundreds of pieces, the mechanism can easily misalign, and lockups quickly break your rhythm. QiYi Magnetic 9x9x9 Ball-Core is also compact for a big cube, so it sits comfortably in your hands even during long solves.

How it turns

The magnets in the pieces make the layers clearly "click" into place and pull themselves into alignment. This helps especially when pairing edges and in the 3x3 stage, where a misaligned layer easily ends in a lockup. In reviews, users describe the feel as very smooth and fairly quiet. They rate the factory tension as even, so you usually don't need to adjust anything straight out of the box. Many people still add some lube to the core and pieces to make the cube turn even more smoothly.

Ball-Core and construction

• Ball-Core with corner-to-core magnets. The magnets connect the corners to the core, which makes the cube more stable and the turning easier to control.
• Varied magnet strength. According to distributors, the inner layers have stronger magnets that stabilize the cube, while the outer layers have weaker ones for lighter turning.
• Dual-center construction, designed to reduce layer misalignment.
• Hexagonal pieces (hex piece design) that spread the lube better throughout the mechanism.
• Snap-on center caps that don't fall out while you solve.

Magnetic or regular QiYi 9x9?

The non-magnetic version is cheaper and is enough for occasional solving. The magnetic version with Ball-Core makes sense if you want to improve your 9x9 times or are simply tired of fighting unstable layers. Auto-alignment and greater stability noticeably reduce the number of lockups.

Who is it for?

For cubers who already solve 6x6 or 7x7 and want to move up to 9x9, and for anyone who takes big cubes seriously. A 9x9 is not a good choice as a child's first cube. A single solve takes a long time and requires knowing the reduction method.
