QiYi Magnetic Number Klotski 4x4

QiYi Magnetic Number Klotski is a magnetic version of the classic 15 puzzle, a sliding number puzzle. The 4x4 board has 15 numbered tiles and one empty space. You slide the tiles around the board until they're in order from 1 to 15. There's no turning here like on a cube. What matters is planning your moves and the order in which you slide the tiles. That makes it a nice break from the 3x3, and it's a puzzle anyone can understand.

What do the magnets do?

In ordinary, cheap 15 puzzles the tiles move loosely, tilt and can get stuck. In this model, QiYi uses magnetic positioning: the magnets pull each tile into the next grid space, so after a slide it settles into place by itself and holds its position. This makes sliding more predictable, and the whole puzzle rattles less in your hands. When you're solving fast against the clock, it also helps you avoid a tile stopping halfway and blocking your next move.

How do you solve it?

The rule is simple, but your first solve will take a bit of patience. Most people start with the top rows and then solve the last two rows column by column. Instructions are included, so you can get started without searching for tutorials. Over time, you can also use the puzzle for timed practice. Just like with cubes, method, lookahead and smooth moves all matter on the 15 puzzle.
