QiYi Mirror 2x2x2

QiYi Mirror 2x2x2 is a shape mod built on the mechanism of a regular 2x2 cube. All faces are the same colour, and whether the puzzle is solved is determined by its shape. Each of the eight pieces has different dimensions, so after a few moves the cube loses its cubic shape and turns into an irregular block. It only returns to a cube once all pieces are back in their places. The Mirror 2x2 cube is available in two colour versions: a black body with silver or gold stickers.

How to solve the Mirror 2x2

The moves and algorithms are the same as on a regular 2x2, so if you can solve one, you don't need to learn a new method. The difficulty lies elsewhere: without colours, you have to recognise pieces by their size and the position of their faces. Corner orientation needs particular attention. For people who already know the 2x2, it's a good exercise in spatial imagination. People who have never solved a cube usually learn faster on a standard coloured 2x2 and only then move on to the Mirror.

Turning is smooth. Straight out of the box, however, the cube can be set quite tight, so we recommend loosening it slightly to start with.

Tension adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws, so you can loosen or tighten the cube to suit your preferences. With shape mods, don't loosen it too much, as the irregular pieces pop out more easily during faster turning.

Who is it for?

For people who can solve a 2x2 and want something different from yet another model for chasing times. It also works well as a desk puzzle or a gift for someone who enjoys logic puzzles. The QiYi Mirror 2x2x2 is not a WCA event and cannot be used at official competitions.
