QiYi MP Magnetic 4x4

QiYi MP Magnetic 4x4

QiYi MP Magnetic 4x4 sits in QiYi's mid-range lineup and shares the character of the 3x3 cube from the MP series: plenty of magnetic stability for a reasonable price. It is a magnetic 4x4 cube measuring 60 mm and weighing 121 g. It comes in stickerless bright colors with a classic black internals, and the shell has a semi-glossy finish.

How it turns

Turning is stable and smooth, and reviewers describe the feel as smooth or even buttery. The magnets are medium-strong to strong. Importantly, they have similar strength in the outer and inner layers, so the cube behaves consistently whether you turn slices or outer faces. The magnets snap the layers into place nicely and pair well with fairly fast, light turning. The cube clearly tends to hold layers in place rather than overshoot them, so it suits you if you value control and fewer accidental moves during reduction on 4x4.

The first days with the cube

Straight out of the box, the MP 4x4 can be quite tight. Some users report lockups at this stage. Loosening the screws and a few dozen solves usually help: the cube breaks in and turns noticeably more freely. If you want a fast cube right after unboxing, be ready for a short break-in period and possibly some lubing.

Adjustment

The cube is adjusted with screws. The manufacturer provides three axis distance settings, so you can easily return to a repeatable setup instead of setting the tension by feel.

Who is it for?

The MP 4x4 is a good first magnetic 4x4 cube for someone who has already mastered the 3x3 and wants to start on bigger cubes with something stable. It also works well as a more affordable practice cube for cubers who don't need a flagship model. It is legal for official competitions. Advanced competitors looking for more extensive adjustment options will probably choose more expensive designs.
