QiYi QiDi S v2 2x2x2

QiYi QiDi S v2 2x2x2 is the second version of one of the most popular budget 2x2 cubes from QiYi (many shops list it as the QiDi S2). It's a simple non-magnetic cube aimed mainly at beginners. It works well as a first 2x2 cube or as an inexpensive practice cube for anyone who doesn't want to buy a magnetic model right away.

How it turns

Compared with the original QiDi S, this cube turns faster and smoother straight out of the box. Some users point out that a brand-new cube can feel quite tight. If so, loosening the screws slightly and breaking it in for a while helps. Its weakest point is corner cutting: with imprecise turns the layers can catch, so the cube needs slightly more careful turning than more expensive models. When you're learning to solve and turning at a relaxed pace, this usually isn't a problem in practice.

Adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. You can loosen the cube slightly if it feels too stiff, or tighten it if it starts to feel too loose over time. There are no magnets, no MagLev and no compression adjustment system, simply because this isn't that segment.

Colour versions

• Stickerless Bright: classic, bright stickerless plastic colours.
• Jelly color: semi-transparent plastic that lets you see the inside of the cube.
• Neon color: vivid neon shades.

The mechanism is the same in all versions; only the look of the plastic differs.

Who is it for?

A good cube for the very start of your speedcubing journey, including for a child who is just learning to solve the 2x2. Solving instructions are included. If you already solve regularly and care about fast times, you'll quickly notice the limits of the QiDi S v2. In that case, a magnetic 2x2 cube is a better choice. The model is legal for official competitions.
