QiYi QiDi W 2x2

QiYi QiDi W 2x2 is a budget 2x2 cube from QiYi (MoFangGe), made for learning to solve the 2x2. You won't find features from flagship models here. What you get is a simple, well-made mechanism that's ready to solve straight out of the box. The cube comes in two colour versions: black (Black) or white (White) plastic.

How it turns

At first, turning is fast but slightly scratchy. After some solving, once the cube has broken in, it becomes smooth and controllable. The QiDi W has no major issues with smoothness or popping, so it won't fall apart in your hands when your moves are less precise. This matters a lot when you're just learning algorithms. It won't be as fast or as "solid" as high-end magnetic 2x2 cubes, but for learning and relaxed practice it's more than enough.

Adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. If the layers are too loose or the cube turns too stiffly, just tighten or loosen the screws slightly. Lubing usually speeds up the break-in of the mechanism and reduces the scratchy feeling of the first few days.

Who is it for?

The QiDi W works well as a first 2x2 cube, as a gift for a child, or as a second cube to carry in your backpack without worrying about it. It's legal for official competitions, so you can also take it to your first tournament. A speedcuber who regularly practises timed 2x2 solves will be better suited by a magnetic cube, which offers more stability at high TPS.
