QiYi QiFan W 6x6x6

The QiYi QiFan 6x6x6 W version is a budget non-magnetic 6x6 cube with a black body and stickers. It was QiYi's first low-cost 6x6. It suits anyone who wants to try bigger cubes and learn to solve a 6x6 before buying a more expensive magnetic model.

How it turns

For its price range, the QiFan turns decently and has good corner cutting. Don't expect it to behave like a magnetic 6x6, though. Without magnets the layers don't snap into place on their own, so you need to turn more precisely, and lockups can happen during fast turning. User opinions are mixed. Some people like the cube straight out of the box, while others say it is too tight from the factory. Loosening the screws, breaking the cube in over a few days of solving and applying lube usually helps.

Tension adjustment

You set the tension with the adjustment screws. A looser setting gives faster turning and easier cutting, but at the cost of stability. On a 6x6 it's easy to overdo it, so it's best to loosen the screws gradually and evenly on all faces.

QiFan W vs. other 6x6 cubes

The QiFan W is the black version with stickers. Its stickerless counterpart is the QiFan S2. Among QiYi's cheaper models, it's also worth comparing the QiYi Warrior 6x6, which is available in a magnetic version. Don't confuse the QiFan W with the original QiFan 6x6 from 2019 - that is an older and noticeably larger design.

Who is it for?

For beginners who want to learn to solve a 6x6 or find out whether this event is for them. The QiFan is also a good budget gift for a child who can already solve a 3x3 or 4x4. If you want to train 6x6 for time regularly, a magnetic cube will be the better choice from the start.
