QiYi QiFan S 6x6x6

This is QiYi's second budget 6x6 cube and the successor to the original QiFan. The QiYi QiFan S 6x6x6 is a non-magnetic cube with a stickerless bright color scheme and frosted plastic. It's a good first 6x6 if you already know reduction from the 4x4 or 5x5 and want to try a bigger cube without buying an expensive magnetic model.

How it turns

The QiFan's biggest strength is stability. The turning is more controllable than fast, so the cube overshoots less often. On a 6x6 this matters a lot, because one inner-layer move that is too strong can break up centers you have already solved. Turning and corner cutting are decent for a budget cube. The outer layers are wider than the inner ones, so they are easier to feel with your fingers and grab when turning a whole face.

Reviewers compare the mechanism to the Shadow V2, but without magnets and made of cheaper plastic. Without magnets, you have to align the layers yourself. If you have already solved a magnetic 6x6, you will clearly feel the difference in precision and speed. So the QiFan won't compete with flagship 6x6 cubes for fast times, but it's more than enough for learning the method and relaxed solving.

Tension adjustment

The tension is adjusted with screws in the centers. A looser setting makes corner cutting easier. A tighter cube feels more solid and holds its layers better, which helps reduce popping on big cubes.

For anyone who is just starting out with the 6x6 and wants to see whether this event is for them. For a child who has already mastered smaller cubes, it's also a sensible and affordable next step. If you want fast times or magnets, you'd be better off looking at a higher-end model.
