QiYi Sail 2x2

QiYi Sail 2x2 is one of the cheapest 2x2 cubes from QiYi and part of the budget Sail line. The same series also includes bigger cubes, from 3x3 to 7x7, as well as a Megaminx and a Skewb. The cube has the standard size of 50 mm and weighs approx. 58 g. We offer it in the Black version, with a black body.

What to expect

The Sail is a cube for learning and relaxed solving, not for breaking records. It is clearly better than toy cubes from the supermarket, but it lacks the features of more expensive models, such as magnets, Ball-Core or advanced tension adjustment. At such a low price, expect more modest corner cutting and a less refined feel than magnetic cubes offer. For someone who is just learning the layer-by-layer method or Ortega, this won't be a big problem.

At approx. 58 g, it sits securely in your hand without feeling heavy. 50 mm is today's standard size for a 2x2, so if you later switch to a speedcube, you won't need to get used to a different size.

Sail 2x2 or a magnetic cube?

If you want to start with the cheapest decent cube, the Sail 2x2 is all you need. Once you start timing your solves and want stability and control during faster turning, it's better to pay a bit more for a magnetic model right away. From QiYi, this could be the Warrior M 2x2 or the M Pro 2x2. Magnets clearly help align the layers and reduce lockups.

Who is it for?

As a first 2x2 cube for a child, a spare cube for your backpack, for cubing classes at school or as an inexpensive addition to a bundle. An experienced speedcuber will probably soon start looking for something faster with tension adjustment.

Note: do not twist the corners of a 2x2 cube (corner twisting), as the piece may break.
