QiYi Tangram

QiYi Tangram is the classic Chinese puzzle made of seven flat pieces, in a version from QiYi, a manufacturer best known for its speedcubes. The goal is easy to explain: you use the same seven pieces to form silhouettes of animals, people, objects, numbers or letters. Nothing turns here, so it's something completely different from a 3x3 cube. What counts is spatial imagination and spotting shapes, not knowing algorithms.

How a tangram works

The set consists of several triangles of different sizes, a square and a parallelogram. Put together, they form a single flat shape, which is usually where you start and where you return at the end. Every figure must use all seven pieces, and the pieces must not overlap. The first silhouettes usually come quickly. With more complex figures, and when you try to put the starting shape back together, you'll need to think for a moment.

The pieces are flat (about 11 mm thick) and the whole set fits in your hand, so the tangram is easy to take on a trip or keep on your desk. Our variant has pieces in different colors (Mixed color), which makes them easier to tell apart and makes it easier to tell a child which piece goes where.

Who is it for?

This tangram is great above all for children who are learning to recognize shapes, and for adults who enjoy calm logic puzzles. The set requires no previous experience with puzzles, and the rules can be explained in a minute. Cubers can treat it as a break from cubes or an inexpensive addition to their order.
