QiYi Teaching Series Pyraminx is a pyramid puzzle from the Teaching Series, QiYi's educational line of puzzles designed for learning to solve. It has a simplified colour scheme with fewer colours than a standard Pyraminx. This lets you practise selected solving stages on their own, without having to go through the earlier steps every time. What is an educational Pyraminx for?

On a regular Pyraminx, beginners usually get stuck at one particular stage. Every attempt then means scrambling again and solving the whole pyramid from the start. The Teaching Series works differently: after scrambling, there are fewer pieces to recognise, so it's easier to focus on a specific case and learn which move or algorithm fits it. It's a great tool for understanding the principles before you move on to the full version.

How it turns

In terms of mechanism, this is a mid-range model. It turns noticeably better than the cheapest pyramid puzzles, but it can't be compared with flagship speedcubing Pyraminxes. It has no magnets, and the tension is set with adjustment screws. It's more than enough for learning and relaxed solving, but it's not a puzzle for breaking records.

Who is it for?

For people who are just learning the Pyraminx, and for parents looking for a puzzle that helps their child learn step by step. It's also useful for instructors and cubing classes. Because of its unusual colour scheme, it is not allowed in official competitions. If you can already solve the Pyraminx on your own and want to train for time, choose a standard speedcubing model, ideally a magnetic one.
