QiYi Twisty Skewb

QiYi Twisty Skewb is a shape mod built on the Skewb mechanism. It looks as if one face of a regular Skewb had been twisted relative to the rest. It turns just like a Skewb, but because of its unusual shape it stops looking like a cube after just a few moves. We stock the stickerless bright version, made of coloured plastic with no stickers.

How it solves

A Skewb doesn't turn in layers like a 3x3 cube. It turns around its corners, and every move shifts half of the puzzle. If you know the Skewb, you'll recognise the same moves, but with the Twisty Skewb you also have to keep an eye on the shape. The centre pieces can't go in just any way: they need the correct orientation. Otherwise the puzzle won't return to its cube shape, even if the colours match.

In this version the pieces are single-coloured, so some corners look identical and are easy to mix up, especially when reassembling the puzzle after taking it apart. According to user reviews, a mistake here can make the puzzle unsolvable. There are also fewer tutorials for this model than for a regular Skewb, so you'll have to figure out part of the solution on your own.

Which version is it?

QiYi has released the Twisty Skewb in two editions. The first appeared around 2018 and was sold with or without stickers. Ours is the newer edition from late 2024, which some shops call Lite or 2025. It is slightly lighter and comes in a smaller, simpler box. The shape and the way it turns have not changed.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a Skewb or a 3x3 cube and are looking for a new challenge, as well as for collectors of shape mods. It is not a WCA event or a model for setting fast times. The Twisty Skewb works best as a puzzle to work out at your own pace. For your very first puzzle, a regular Skewb or a 3x3 cube is a better choice.
