QiYi Void Sandwich Cube

QiYi Void Sandwich Cube combines two ideas known from 3x3-style puzzles. The first is the Void Cube, a cube without center pieces. Each face has a hole in the middle that you can put your finger through. The second is the Sandwich color scheme: three colors instead of six, arranged in three horizontal layers. The result is a cube that looks unusual but is simpler to solve than a classic 3x3.

How it differs from a regular 3x3 cube

In a standard cube, the centers are attached to the core and determine the color of each face. Here there are no centers, so you have to work out for yourself where each color should go. The moves are the same as on a 3x3, and most solving methods can be used too. Without fixed centers, however, a classic Void Cube can run into parity, a situation that never occurs on a regular cube. With only three colors, there are far fewer pieces to tell apart, so the cube is easier to understand. It works well as your first puzzle after mastering the basics of the 3x3.

Mechanism and turning

Despite having no centers, the cube turns smoothly and stably, because QiYi uses a mechanism designed for centerless construction. This is a cube for fun, collecting and training spatial thinking, not for breaking records. If you are looking for a speedcubing cube, choose a classic 3x3. If you want a Void Cube without the Sandwich scheme, you will find standard versions of this puzzle in the QiYi range.
