QiYi Warrior 5x5 Magnetic UV

A budget 5x5 cube from the Warrior series, in which QiYi magnetized all layers, not just the outer ones. The QiYi Warrior 5x5 Magnetic UV, also sold as the Warrior M 5x5 UV, has 240 magnets in a triple magnetic positioning system. It measures approx. 59.5 mm, and its stickerless plastic in bright colors is finished with a glossy UV coating.

How it turns

The magnets sit in three places: in the outer layers, in the inner slices and in the middle layer. As a result, the layers snap into place on their own after a turn, including the inner ones. On a 5x5 this really helps with centers and edge pairing. The cube overshoots less often, and layers are less likely to shift by accident. Early user reviews mention stable, smooth turning. However, the plastic is clearly lower-end, and you can feel the difference compared to more expensive models.

The edges and centers are small, and the outer layers are enlarged. The pieces have anti-stick grooves designed to reduce lockups and catching. The centers have one-piece center caps, so they don't pop off during fast solving.

Magnetic UV, Magnetic or non-magnetic?

The Warrior 5x5 comes in several versions. The non-magnetic version is the most basic. Its layers don't settle into place on their own, so you need to turn more precisely. The Magnetic version has the same 240-magnet system as the Magnetic UV, but with matte (frosted) plastic and medium grip. The Magnetic UV differs in its finish: the coating is glossy, grips your fingers better and is more scratch-resistant. So when choosing between the magnetic versions, it mainly comes down to which surface you prefer.

Who is it for?

This cube suits someone who, after a 3x3 and 4x4, is buying their first 5x5 and wants a magnetic version right away without spending money on a flagship. The smaller size and weight of approx. 111 g make the cube easier to hold for smaller hands and during longer sessions. A speedcuber can use it as a backup or practice cube. If you're looking for the refined feel of a flagship 5x5, you should rather consider a more expensive model.
