QiYi Warrior Skewb Stickerless

The QiYi Warrior Skewb is an affordable skewb from the Warrior line and a good choice as your first skewb to learn on. It is stickerless, in the Bright colour scheme, with a matte plastic finish. The manufacturer has set it up to be stable and ready to solve straight out of the box, with no adjusting or lubing needed.

How a skewb works

A skewb looks like a cube, but it turns differently from a 3x3 cube. Each move rotates half of the puzzle around an axis that runs through the corners. As a result, the puzzle has only 8 corners and 6 centres, and you can learn the beginner method fairly quickly. Skewb is also an official event at WCA competitions, so over time learning can turn into proper timed practice.

Mechanism and feel

Layer positioning is based on flexible plastic nubs. In practice, the layer gently "snaps" into place as you turn it. This makes it easier to complete a full move and less likely that you leave a layer misaligned. The anti-pop design keeps the pieces from popping out during faster turning. The matte surface doesn't shine and doesn't show fingerprints as clearly as glossy plastic. At around 63.6 g, the puzzle is light and sits comfortably in your hand.

Warrior Skewb or Warrior Skewb V2?

QiYi has also released a second version of this model. The Warrior Skewb V2 uses steel ball positioning instead of plastic nubs and is slightly heavier (approx. 69.6 g). According to distributors, turns on the V2 finish more softly and more consistently. The version described on this page is the original Warrior Skewb: lighter and simpler in design.

Who is it for?

It's a sensible choice for a first skewb, for a child just getting started with puzzles, and for a cuber who wants to try a new event without spending a lot of money. If you practise skewb regularly and want adjustable settings, sooner or later you'll start looking at more expensive, higher-end models.
