QiYi X-cube: the Dino Cube from QiYi

At first glance, the QiYi X-cube looks like an ordinary cube, but it turns in a completely different way. It is a Dino Cube: instead of turning by layers, it turns around its corners, just like a Skewb. Unlike a 3x3, it has no classic division into edges, corners and centers. Each corner turn moves three neighboring pieces, and the whole cube consists of 12 pieces. Manufacturers and shops often sell this model under the name QiYi X Dino.

How to solve it

The turning style is similar to a Skewb, but solving it is simpler than you might think. Because of the way it works, the Dino Cube is often compared to the corners of a Pyraminx. Most people figure out the solution intuitively, and for faster solving a simple sledgehammer algorithm comes in handy. Once the basic solve is no longer a challenge, you can try patterns such as the checkerboard.

The X-cube turns well straight out of the box, with no breaking in or lubing needed. Reviewers praise its smooth turning and solid build. The cube has no magnets or any other mechanism that aligns the layers. When turning fast, it is easy to accidentally move a neighboring corner or run into a lockup if the previous move was not completed. You get used to it quickly, but this is not a puzzle built for high TPS.
