QiYi XMD Mini Mat V3

QiYi XMD Mini Mat V3

QiYi XMD Mini Mat V3 is a smaller speedcubing mat from QiYi's Mini Mat series, in a version with X-Man Design (XMD) graphics. It measures about 45 x 29.3 cm, so it fits on an ordinary desk next to a laptop or a sheet of algorithms. It's still big enough to hold your cube and timer. The mat is black.

What a cube mat is for

On a mat, your cube doesn't slide across the desk when you put it down after a solve. It also gets fewer scratches, and if it slips out of your hands during fast turning, it lands on a soft surface instead of a hard desk. When you practise with a timer, the mat gives your setup a fixed place: the cube sits in front of the timer, your hands hit the sensors in the same spot every time, and inspection and the start of each solve stay consistent.

Works with a timer

This mat is compatible with the QiYi Smart Timer and has holes ready for its mounts. You install the mounts yourself, and once they're in place the timer stays attached to the mat and doesn't shift when you put your hands on it. When you do many solves in a row, that's more convenient than straightening the timer every few solves.

Mini Mat or full-size mat?

The Mini version takes up less space and is easier to take with you, for example to a cubing meetup or to school. If you need room for several cubes at once or you practise bigger puzzles such as the Megaminx or 6x6, a larger mat may be more comfortable. For practising 3x3, 2x2 or Pyraminx with one timer, the Mini size is enough.

Who is it for?

It's a good first accessory for someone who already has a cube and is starting to time their solves. It also suits speedcubers who want a small, permanent practice spot at home. It's a great gift to go with the QiYi Smart Timer, too, as together they make a complete training set.
