SengSo 2x2 Pentahedron

SengSo 2x2 Pentahedron is a two-layer puzzle from ShengShou (SengSo is the name the manufacturer uses for some of its cubes). It has a five-faced shape, and the mechanism turns on two layers. At first glance it looks like a simple cube, but solving it is harder than it seems. We offer the stickerless version in bright colors.

How it differs from a regular 2x2 cube

The shape changes how you need to approach the solve, so a method for the classic 2x2 won't be enough. Experience with cuboids helps here. Cuboids are puzzles with irregular proportions, where some moves work differently than on a cube. Pentahedron tutorials often use short sequences based on 180-degree turns (e.g. R2 U R2 U'), familiar to anyone who has solved puzzles such as the 2x2x3 or 3x3x2.

If you've already solved your first cubes, this is a good step towards shape-shifting puzzles. You don't need to learn dozens of algorithms right away, but you do need to understand how the pieces behave on an unusual shape. If you already know cuboids, you'll see the Pentahedron more as an interesting exercise than a serious challenge.

Build

The puzzle is stickerless, so the colors are in the plastic itself and there are no stickers to wear off or peel. The mechanism turns lightly. It's a puzzle for collecting and fun, not for setting records, so it has no tension adjustment system or features known from flagship speed cubes.

Don't force-twist the corners of 2x2 cubes, as this can easily damage a piece. If a piece pops out while you're solving, you can usually press it back in by hand.
