SengSo 3x3 Magnetic Clock
SengSo 3x3 Magnetic Clock by
ShengShou is a smaller, simpler version of the classic Clock puzzle. This model was one of the first Clock modifications.
Each side has six clocks instead of the traditional nine, and you turn the dials with three gears. The goal stays the same: all hands on both sides must point to 12 o'clock.
How it differs from a standard Clock
With fewer clocks, you have fewer dials to keep track of with each move. The general solving method is the same as for a regular Clock, so this model is a good first introduction to this puzzle. If you already know the classic Clock, you will probably treat it as an interesting variant for your collection rather than a training puzzle. The model is not allowed in official WCA competitions, because the Clock event requires the standard puzzle with nine clocks per side.
Mechanism, pins and tension adjustment
The name includes "Magnetic" because the puzzle has magnetic stabilization. The most noticeable difference compared with clocks from other manufacturers, e.g. MoFangGe, is the
shorter pins. This matters if you are used to pressing taller pins.
Straight out of the box, the SengSo 3x3 Magnetic Clock can feel slightly stiff, and the gears may turn rather heavily. That is why it is worth adjusting it right away. The adjustment screws let you set the resistance of the mechanism to your liking.
Who is this Clock for?
First of all, for anyone who wants to see how a Clock works before buying the full-size version. It is also a good gift for a child who has already solved the 3x3 cube and is looking for something different. Clock collectors will find it a nice addition to variants with more dials. For competition training, a standard magnetic Clock is a better choice.
