SengSo 5x5 Pyraminx

SengSo 5x5 Pyraminx is a ShengShou pyramid puzzle with five layers on every axis (SengSo is a ShengShou brand). A regular Pyraminx has three layers and the Master Pyraminx has four. This version adds one more, so there are many more pieces and solving takes noticeably longer. The puzzle has no magnets and comes in the stickerless bright version, which means it's made of coloured plastic with no stickers.

How does it turn?

This is a big puzzle, so don't expect the speed of a speedcubing Pyraminx. ShengShou gave the pieces wavy grooves. They are meant to reduce friction and hold lube longer, so the layers don't slow down during a long solve. Instead of magnets, round snap-in grooves finish each move. This gives a lighter, less distinct "click" than in magnetic models. Opinions on the feel vary. Some users describe light and smooth turning, others a more "chunky" character that is far from a speedcubing puzzle. The manufacturer states that the pieces have 2 mm thick walls and that the design is meant to prevent popping.

How hard is it to solve?

It is clearly harder than the standard Pyraminx and the Master Pyraminx. According to users, it will be easiest for people who can solve the Master Pyraminx and a bigger cube, e.g. 4x4 or 5x5, because some of the techniques are similar. If you only know the classic Pyraminx, you can still manage, but be prepared for a longer learning process.

Who is it for?

For collectors and anyone who wants to take on something bigger than a regular Pyraminx. This model is not a WCA event, so you don't buy it to train for competitions, but simply for the fun of solving. For a child's first pyramid puzzle, a regular Pyraminx is a better choice.
