SengSo 6x6 Magic Tower by ShengShou is a bigger version of the well-known Magic Tower 3x3 puzzle. It works on the same principle as the original, but inside it has a 6x6 cube mechanism. From the outside the puzzle looks like a pyramid, but it is not a Pyraminx. It is a shape mod, a 6x6 cube with a changed shape, similar to Mastermorphix-type puzzles. It comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How to solve it

You solve the Magic Tower 6x6 the same way as a classic 6x6 cube. All you need is a 6x6 method, usually reduction: first you solve the centers, then pair the edges and finally solve it like a 3x3. The challenge lies in the shape. The pieces come in different sizes and forms, so when the puzzle is scrambled they are harder to recognize and you cannot place them by colour alone. Because of this, even if you know the 6x6 well, you will need to get used to its new look.

The mechanism turns smoothly right out of the box and does not catch. During normal solving the puzzle is stable and the feel is smooth. Still, this is a collector's puzzle, not a cube for breaking records. It is not allowed in official competitions, so it makes no sense to judge it by TPS. You can change the tension with the adjustment screws.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a 6x6 and want to try the same puzzle in a different shape. It is also a great choice for collectors of shape-shifting puzzles and for anyone who already owns the Magic Tower 3x3 and is looking for something harder. If you are just starting out, it is better to begin with the 3x3 version or a regular 6x6 cube and come back to this one later. At approx. 92 mm, the puzzle fits in your hands, but it is noticeably larger than a standard 3x3 cube.
