SengSo 9x9 Mastermorphix is a shape mod from ShengShou (SengSo is this manufacturer's brand) that looks like a rounded tetrahedron. Inside, it runs on a 9x9 cube mechanism. At first glance it resembles a large Pyraminx, but looks can be deceiving. The pieces come in different shapes and sizes, so once scrambled, the puzzle loses its shape, and you need to look closely to tell which piece is a corner and which is an edge. The model was released in 2022 and is available in a stickerless bright version.

What makes it challenging

The solving order is the same as on any big cube: centers, edge pairing, then the 3x3 stage. The Mastermorphix adds two things to this. Colour alone is not enough, because every piece also has to end up in a spot of the right shape. Center orientation matters too: on a regular 9x9 cube, centers of the same colour are indistinguishable, but here they differ in shape, so it's easy to solve a face by colour and still not get the tetrahedron back. That's why this puzzle is for people who already solve big cubes comfortably, not for beginners.

How it turns

User opinions are mixed. Some praise its very smooth turning compared to other Mastermorphixes, while others point out that the puzzle pops fairly easily. Screw adjustment can help: you can tighten the mechanism to reduce popping, at the cost of slightly heavier turning. The puzzle is fairly large and weighs over 350 g, so it's better to turn it calmly and precisely rather than at high speed. It's a collector's puzzle meant for solving at home. It is not legal for official competitions.

Who is it for?

For experienced cubers and shape mod collectors who have at least solved the classic Mastermorphix and multi-layer cubes and are now looking for something noticeably harder. As a gift for someone who is just learning to solve, a regular 3x3 Mastermorphix or a Pyraminx will be a better choice.
