SengSo Alloy 2x2 is a 2x2 cube from ShengShou's Alloy series, where the focus is above all on the look and the weight in your hand. The pieces have a glossy metal finish on the outside, while inside there is a regular plastic mechanism. The cube measures 50 mm and weighs about 123 g, roughly twice as much as a typical plastic 2x2 cube of this size. You feel the difference as soon as you pick it up.

How it turns

The Alloy 2x2 is not a cube for breaking records, and it's best not to treat it as one. According to the available data, it has no magnets, so the layers don't snap into place on their own, and turning requires more precision than on modern magnetic 2x2 cubes. The extra weight makes the cube turn more calmly and with more inertia. For slow, casual solving this gives a pleasant, "solid" feel, but at high TPS the weight starts to get in the way and overshooting becomes more likely.

Metal finish

The Alloy series stands out for its looks. Instead of the usual saturated stickerless colors, you get glossy metallic shades. As a result, on a shelf it looks more like a gadget than a typical practice cube. If you solve a lot, it's worth knowing that the face colors are less contrasting than in the classic bright stickerless color scheme, so recognizing pieces during fast solving may take a little getting used to.

As with any 2x2 cube, you shouldn't twist the corners (corner twist), as this can break a piece.

Who is it for?

For collectors and for those who already have a fast 2x2 cube and want to add something different from yet another plastic model to their collection. It also makes a good gift for someone who likes cubes, or a "desk cube" for relaxed solving. If you care about practice and good times, a lightweight magnetic 2x2 speed cube is a better choice.
